Background was as a Store keeper. Enlisted as a Private. Was elected Commissary and promoted to rank of Captain. 18th Regiment suffered heavy casualties at the crater in Petersburg, VA and the remainder was absorbed into the Army of Northern Virginia. He was appointed Commissary for the ANV and surrendered with Gen. Lee at Appomattox in 1865. |
